Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young – 14 Dec 1969 – Detroit, MI

Crosby, Stills, & Nash was a folk rock supergroup that first came together in 1968.  David Crosby came from The Byrds, CSNY Detroit 69 FrontStephen Stills came from Buffalo Springfield, and Graham Nash was in the band, The Hollies.  Crosby and Nash had been first introduced in 1966.  At a party in July 1968 at Joni Mitchell’s house, Nash asked Crosby and Stills to perform a repeat of Still’s new song, “You Don’t Have To Cry” with Nash joining in on harmony.  It ‘clicked’ and was the beginning of their ride.  Their first self-titled album was released in May 1969.  Stills, himself, had handled most of the instrumental duties, and it was clear that they needed more musicians, in order to start touring.  They originally tried to recruit SteveCSNY Detroit 69 Back Winwood on keyboards, however, he was already committed to his band Blind Faith.  Neil Young was suggested, and signed to a flexible contract allowing him to continue performing with Crazy Horse, as well.  Their first gig was in Chicago on 16 Aug 1969, and they mentioned that they were scheduled to perform at Woodstock the next day, wherever that was.

Bad Company – 1976 – Albuquerque, NM

Bad Company first came together and formed in 1973 in London.  They were comprised of two formerBad Company Albuquerque 1976 Front members of the band Free, vocalist Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke.  They were joined by King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell and Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs.  The band was managed by Led Zeppelin manager, Peter Grant, and was soon signed to Swan Song Records/Atlantic Records.  The band’s debut album, Bad Company was released in 1974, and went straight to number 1 on the Billboard 200 in the US.  In 1975 and 1976, their second and third albums, Straight Shooter and Run With The Pack, hit number 3 and number 5, respectively.  They were scheduled to start a double headline tour with Bad Company Live Albuquerque 1976 Backformer Free member, Paul Kossoff to help promote Back Street Crawler‘s new album.  This was supposed to begin April 1976, but was scrapped due to Kossoff’s untimely passing in March 76.  Rumor has it that Rodgers got the name from the Jeff Bridges movie, Bad Company, but he said in an interview that he got it from an image in a book of a kid looking up at an unsavory character leaning on a lamp post with the caption: ‘beware of bad company.

Pat Travers – 1982 – Nassau Coliseum – NY

Pat Travers is a rock guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  He startedPat Travers-RadioActiveLive- Front with guitar at age 12 and soon thereafter saw Jimi Hendrix in Ottawa.  Travers began playing in bands in his early teens, and attracted the attention of Ronnie Hawkins, while playing in the Quebec area in Merge.  He soon moved to London, signed a contract with Polydor, and released his self-titled debut album in 1976.   This concert tour was with Rainbow, and was the Pat Travers Band’s most successful tour, but despite that, the album Radioactive barely made it into the top 40, only hitting number 37.  This was the beginning of Pat Travers’ waning popularity.  Polydor dropped Travers due to very disappointing sales Pat Travers-RadioActiveLive- Backin 1982.  Travers responded by suing Polydor. He won the suit.  In 84, Polydor did drop him, and he went through the latter part of the 80’s in a downward spiral, only releasing on indie labels.  In 1990, he signed a deal with Blues International Records, and quite possibly coupled with his undying fan base might just return to the earlier popularity that he enjoyed in the seventies.
