Judas Priest 80 Front CoverJudas Priest is an English heavy metal band and was formed in 1969 in Birmingham.  In 2006, MTV rated them as the second Greatest Metal Band of all time.  They were best known for their twin lead guitars and their vocalist’s operatic style.  The band’s largest success was during the years 1979-1989 with the lineup Rob Halford (vocals), K.K. Downing (guitar), Glenn Tipton (guitar, keyboards), Ian Hill (bass), and Dave Holland (drums).  It was during this period in 1980 that the album British Steel helped them to soar in the charts.  Judas Priest 80 Back CoverIt was at the end of this period in 1989 when they were named as defendants in an unsuccessful lawsuit that alleged that subliminal messages on their albums caused two young men to commit suicide via shotgun after a night of drinking, smoking pot, and listening to Priest.  This concert was the British Steel tour, NY, 05 Jul 1980This concert catches the band at their heyday as their success was peaking.  (Their best selling album was the 1982 Screaming for Vengeance.)

Kiss 2000 Front CoverKiss  is an American rock band formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley. Well known for its members’ face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-to-late 1970s with their elaborate live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics. The band has gone through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons the only remaining original members. The original and best-known lineup consisted of Stanley (vocals and rhythm guitar), Simmons (vocals and bass guitar), Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Criss Kiss 2000 Back Cover(drums and vocals).  With their make-up and costumes, they took on the personae of comic book-style characters: The Starchild (Stanley), The Demon (Simmons), The Spaceman or Space Ace (Frehley) and The Catman (Criss). Due to creative differences, both Criss and Frehley had departed the group by 1982, but by this concert had all reunited.  This excellent soundboard bootleg finds Kiss at the Continental Airlines Arena in 2000.  This broadcast aired on Westwood One Absolutely Live In Concert, and was broadcast during the weekend of April 28/29, 2007.

The Who – 1973-12-04 – The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA [SBD]

The Who are an English rock band that formed in 1964. Their classic line-up consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and singer Pete Townshend, The Who 73 Front Coverbass guitarist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century, selling over 100 million records worldwide and holding a reputation for their live shows and studio work. The Who developed from an earlier group, The Detours, and established themselves as part of the pop art and mod movements, featuring auto-destructive art by destroying guitars and drums on stage. Their first single as the Who, “I Can’t Explain“, reached the UK top ten, followed by a string of singles including “My Generation“, “Substitute” and “Happy Jack“. In 1967, they performed at the Monterey Pop Festival and released the US top ten single “I Can See for Miles“, while touring extensively. The group’The Who 73 Back Covers fourth album, 1969’s rock opera Tommy, included the single “Pinball Wizard” and was a critical and commercial success. Live appearances at Woodstock and the Isle of Wight Festival, along with the live album Live at Leeds, cemented their reputation as a respected rock act. With their success came increased pressure on lead songwriter and visionary Townshend, and the follow-up to Tommy, Lifehouse, was abandoned. Songs from the project made up 1971’s Who’s Next, which included the hit “Won’t Get Fooled Again“. The group released the album Quadrophenia in 1973 as a celebration of their mod roots.  This is where we catch The Who, at The Spectrum, in Philadelphia, in a great soundboard bootleg.

The Who – 1999-11-12 – The House of Blues, Chicago, IL [HQ-AUD]

The Who is an English rock band that formed in 1964.  Their most classic lineup consisted of Pete Townshend (guitar), the_Who__1999_11_12__Chicago,frontRoger Daltry (vocals), John Entwistle (bass), and Keith Moon (drums).  They are one of the most influential bands of the 20th century.  In late 1999, The Who played 7 shows ranging from an acoustic performanc3e at The Bridge School benefit to to a “dot.com” launch part in Las Vegas to a set of charity shows in Chicago to a pair of Christmas shows in London.  The two Chicago concerts took place at The House of Blues and benefited the nearby Maryville Academy.  Townshend had played solo benefit shows for the academy in prior years, helping to raise over $1 million.   The academy’s mission is to treat and support children who have been the_Who__1999_11_12__Chicago,backphysically, sexually, and/or emotionally abused.  The House of Blues shows were notable for resurrecting several songs that had rarely been played since the 1970s, including Pure and Easy, Getting in Tune, and I’m A Boy.  The shows also featured the first performances since 1989 of You  Better You Bet and Eminence Front.  This high quality audience recording captures the first show on 12 Nov 1999.  Check this one out to hear The Who in what turned out to be a warm up for their highly successful 2000 tour.

ACDC – 2015-06-07 – Stadion Letzigrund, Zurich [HQ-AUD]

ACDC is an Australian hard rock band that formed in 1973 by the brothers Angus and Malcolm Young.  ACDC 2015 FRONTAlthough they endured quite a few lineup changes in their over 40 years together, the one constant was the brothers Young.  That is, until recently.  Unfortunately, Malcolm has had to permanently retire from the band due to dementia.  Their last album is the first in their history without even one recorded track by Malcolm.  Malcolm Young has been replaced by his nephew Stevie Young.  He has previously filled in for his Uncle on the 1988 tour due to Malcolm falling sick.  Another bit of trouble surrounded drummer Phil Rudd.  He got into a bit of legal trouble in New Zealand over alleged drug possession and ACDC 2015 BACKattempted murder.  Therefore, he was removed from the band and unable to tour in support of the Rock or Bust album.  Chris Slade has replaced him.  No word if it’s a permanent replacement, but I suspect that it is.  This high quality audience recording was in Zurich on 7 Jun 2015, and was supplied by the Moonshiner a week or so after the concert date.  Check this one out, and then, go out and by the CD.  😉
