Happy Hour Heavy Metal Night

Cinderella – 2000-07-16 – Tampa, FL

Cinderella is a glam metal band founded in Philadelphia, PA in 1983 by guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist Tom Keifer and CinderellaTampa2000Frontbassist Eric Brittingham as well as guitarist Michael Smerick and drummer Tony Destra.  Smerick and Destra left the band in 1985 prior to their record contract with Mercury/Polygram  to form Britney Fox.  Their initial tour was 1986, and with Poison, opened for Loudness, a Japanese heavy metal band.  1987 brought large venue tours in Japan, Scandanavia, and the Monsters of Rock festivals in the UK and Germany.  In 1991, Keifer lost his voice due to a paresis of his vocal cords.  Several surgeries followed to repair the damage.  Mercury dropped the band, and they went on hiatus in 1995 until 1997.  Cinderella toured the US in 1998 and recorded and CinderellaTampa2000Backreleased Live at the Key Club in 1998 through Cleopatra Records.  In 1999, Sony Records signed the band, but they were dropped before an album could be recorded, resulting in three years of litigation.  It was in the midst of these court battles that Cinderella toured in 2000 and 2002.  This  concert was on the 2000 tour in Tampa, FL on 16 Jul 2000, and they still had not been signed to a new contract after Sony dropped them.  Cinderella is still together today, and continues to tour.

The next segment is the US Festival ’83, and is only broken up by a couple short station ID spots.  The US Festival US Festival 83 Frontwas founded by Steve Wozniak, creator of the Apple II.  The first was held Labor Day weekend, 1982 and the second was held Memorial Day weekend, 1983.  Wozniak bulldozed, and constructed a new open-air venue at Glen Helen Regional Park near Devore, San Bernadino, CA.  This site is now home to the San Manuel Amphitheatre.  This festival was comprised of: New Wave Day, Heavy Metal Day, Rock Day, and (a week later) Country Day on Saturday 28 May, Sunday 29 May, Monday 30 May, and Saturday 4 June, respectively.  This segment is the Heavy Metal Day US Festival 83 Backcomprised of Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions, and Van Halen, many of which you have heard on this blog in the past.  This festival, by the way, is not pronounced the ‘U.S.’ Festival, but the ‘US’ Festival the term being coined by Wozniak.  This Festival was originally broadcast on the Westwood One Satellite Network, and is FM broadcast quality.
