Bob Dylan – 1994-08-14 – Woodstock, Saugerties, NY [SBD]
Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960’s when his
songs chronicled social unrest, although Dylan repudiated suggestions from journalists that he was a spokesman for his generation. His recording career, spanning 50 years, has explored the traditions in American song – from folk, blues, and country to gospel, rock and roll, and rockabilly to English, Scottish and Irish folk music, emracing even jazz. Early songs, such as “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “The Times They Are a-Changin‘” became anthems for the American civil rights and anti- war movements. Bob Dylan said in 1985, “The thing about rock’n’roll is that for me anyway it wasn’t enough… There were
great catch-phrases and driving pulse rhythms… but the songs weren’t serious or didn’t reflect life in a realistic way. I knew that when I got into folk music, it was more of a serious type of thing. The songs are filled with more despair, more sadness, more triumph, more faith in the supernatural, much deeper feelings.” He has been touring steadily since the late 1980s on what has been dubbed the ‘Never Ending Tour’. This soundboard recording catches Dylan at Woodstock 94 on the final night.
Traffic – 1994-08-14 – Woodstock, Saugerties, NY [SBD]
As legend goes, Steve Winwood reformed Traffic in 1994 after a Dead Head left a message for Bob Weir
suggesting that if would be “cool” if The Dead and Traffic toured together! I’m not quite sure how true that is, but Traffic did come back together in 1994, and they were the lead-in band for the Grateful Dead’s summer tour! One stop they made, however, without the Dead, was at the Woodstock 1994 Festival in Saugerties, NY on August 14, 1994. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival, the concert was originally scheduled on August 13 and 14 and billed as “2 more days of peace and music”, borrowing 
from the 1969 concert’s promotional posters. A 3rd day was eventually on August 12th. Traffic played before a crowd of 350,000, who despite the rain and mud, conditions similar to those in 1969, were mostly well behaved and embodied the spirit shown by those who attended the original Woodstock. Check this one out to hear a reunited Traffic on its first tour in 2 decades, playing live at the follow up to perhaps the most legendary concert in rock history.
Allman Brothers Band – 1994-08-14 – Woodstock, Saugerties, NY [SBD]
Another band that didn’t
make the original Woodstock but made sure to play the 25th anniversary was the one and only Allman Brothers Band. The Allmans had been back together since 1989, having reformed after a 7 year hiatus. In addition to original members Greg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, the 1995 version of the band also included Warren Haynes, Allen Woody, and Marc Quiñones. Just like Dylan and Traffic, the Allmans also played on the final day of Woodstock 25, on August 14, 1994.
