King Crimson – 1974-07-01 – Live in Central Park, NYC, NY [SBD]

King Crimson is a progressive rock band that was formed in London in 1968.  With guitarist Robert Fripp as the only consistent member (considered to be the leader), the band’s lineup has constantly changed throughout its existence, with 18 musicians and 3 lyricists having been members.  Some of the members have lasted for decades.  The debut lineup of King Crimson was influential, but short lived, having lasting for just under a year.  They established several of the ground rules of British progressive rock.  During 1070 and 1971, there was a second unstable lineup exploring jazz, funk and chamber music.  It was during the third stable lineup during 1972 to 1974 that this soundboard concert was recorded prior to the first of Fripp-inspired hiatuses that were to occur.  This lineup was noted for containing elements of hard rock, jazz fusion, and harsh classical elements.  Check this great concert out to hear a piece of history.

Golden Earring – 1975-04-26 – Live at the Record Plant, Sausalito, CA  [KSAN-FM]

Golden Earring is a Dutch band formed in The Hague in 1961 as The Golden Earrings. (The ‘s’ was dropped in 1969.)  For those who recently discovered Golden Earring, another unofficial bootleg, recorded during their golden era (1972-77). It was captured one day after the Winterland concert (which we heard here last week and you can check it out here), and was broadcast on KSAN-FM.  Golden Earring recorded this session at the Record Plant for the King Biscuit Flower Hour the day after the Winterland concert. It was really the occasion for the band to present their Switch album (6 of the 7 songs), one of  their best to the US.  The sound is not totally what we could hope for such a record studio recording.  Great band. It is sad to say that they don’t do anything really of any interest since their excellent Millbrook USA album in 2003.  Check out the preview below, or better yet grab the whole broadcast segment below, and make the judgement for yourself.

Yes  – 1991-07-21 – Jones Beach, Long Island, NY  [SBD]

Yes is an English progressive rock band formed in 1968 by bassist Chris Squire and vocalist Jon Anderson.  This is the continuation of our tribute here at CRAB to honor Chris Squire, who passed on 27 Jun 2015.  Union was the thirteenth studio album released by Yes.  The album was released on 30 Apr 1991, and involved the merger of two bands featuring current and previous members of Yes.  Yes, formed of Chris Squire, Trevor Rabin, Tony Kaye, and Alan White were joined by Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe (ABWH), formed of Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe.  Union was released to a mixed reception.  It reached number 7 in the UK and number 15 in the U.S.  Three singles were released from the album:  Lift Me Up, Saving My Heart, and I Would Have Waited Forever.  The album is a collection of tracks written by each group separately.  The eight members do not play at once.  However, Yes supported Union with a tour featuring all eight members on stage at the same time.  This concert is from that tour, and was recorded on Jones Beach,  on 21 Jul 1991 for the ‘Ultimate Yes Reunion’
